Efter hans död, samlade Muawiya den andre folket, på en välkänd dag, han stod ibland dem och höll ett tal:
“Min farfar Muawiya stal styret from dem som förtjänade det och från en person som var mera berättigad att inneha den, vars relation till Allahs budbärare och att han valt Islam först av alla, det var Ali ibn Abi Talib, han (Muawiya) tog över makten med er hjälp såsom ni vet. Sedan följde min far Yazid vid makten och han förtjänade inte att inneha den. Han bråkade med sonen till Profetens (saw) dotter, och med detta förkortade han sitt eget liv…Han följde sina nycker och hoppet lämnade honom bakom sig.”
Sedan grät han och fortsatte: “Sannerligen, är vårt största problem att vi besitter kunskap om hans dåliga beteende och hans hemska slut och att han mördade familjen (Itrah) till Allahs budbärare (saw) och att han tillät att man drack alkohol och att han slogs i Meckas helgedom och att han förstörde Kaaban.
Och jag är inte den som klär sig upp för att leda er, inte heller den som är ansvarig för era följare…Ni väljer för er själva!
After his death, Muawiyah the second, gathered the people on a well known day, he stood in them preaching, he said:
“My grandfather Muawiyah stripped the command from those who deserved
it, and from one who is more justified of it, for his relation to the
Messenger of Allah and his being first in Islam, and that is ‘Ali Ibn
Abi Talib, he (Muawiyah) took over it by your help as you are fully
aware.”
“Then following it my father Yazid wore the command after him, and he
did not deserve it. He quarreled with the son of the daughter of the
Messenger of Allah, and by that he shortened his own life… He rode his
whim and hope left him behind.”
Then he cried and continued: “Surely, the greatest problems of us is
our knowledge of his bad behavior and his awful ending, and that he
killed the progeny (Itrah) of the Messenger of Allah, and he permitted
drinking alcohol, and he fought in the sanctuary of Mecca, and destroyed
the Ka’ba.”
“And I am not the one who is dressing up for your command, nor the
one to be responsible for your followers… You choose for
yourselves..!!”
